What this covers

This policy covers the Pause Chrome extension and this privacy/support website. Pause has no accounts, subscription, advertising, or analytics service. No personal profile is created.

Information used by the extension

Local settings. Chrome’s local extension storage holds the domains you add, each website’s on/off switch, breathing duration and maximum visit length, the global switch, learned source-to-destination redirect-host mappings, and preferences remembering removed mappings.

Local activity counts. Pause stores three aggregate counts: breathing pauses, Step away selections, and Continue selections. These counts are not currently displayed or sent anywhere. They do not include a timeline of your activity.

Temporary browsing state. To open the correct page, follow a recognized redirect and intervene when time expires, Pause handles full destination URLs, navigation URLs and status, redirect information, tab identifiers, breathing deadlines, chosen visit lengths, visit start times, and allowances. Temporary state is stored in Chrome’s extension session storage. Pending requests to add a website expire after ten minutes.

Current page suggestion. Opening the toolbar popup lets Pause read the current page URL and suggest its domain. This suggestion is not stored unless you add the website. Pause can also read whether its toolbar icon is pinned; it does not change that setting.

Pause does not read website page contents, emails, messages, passwords, cookies, form entries, or payment information. It does not inject content scripts or record keystrokes or mouse movements.

How the information is used

Information stays within the extension and is used to provide website interventions: match your websites, display your settings, run a breathing pause, continue to the correct URL, track the visit you choose, and recognize redirect destinations. Navigation events can expose URLs beyond the websites for which you grant optional access; Pause processes this metadata locally for these features.

Recognized automatic redirects can save an exact destination host under Redirects covered. You can remove this coverage in the popup. Separately configured sites keep their own settings. The extension does not create or export a general browsing-history archive.

Permissions and website icons

Website access is requested when you add a domain and includes its subdomains. declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess redirects matching top-level page requests to the local breathing page. webNavigation supplies the navigation metadata used for redirect coverage. activeTab supports the current-page suggestion. storage keeps settings and temporary state. alarms schedules visit expiry.

favicon displays website icons through Chrome’s favicon endpoint. Pause does not use a third-party icon lookup service. All executable code is packaged with the extension; no remote scripts, external fonts, or tracking assets are loaded.

Sharing and limited use

The extension does not sell, transmit, or share your extension data with the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. It has no developer server and uses no cloud sync. Choosing Continue navigates Chrome to the website you chose; that website’s own privacy practices then apply.

Pause uses information received through Chrome APIs only to provide its stated website-intervention features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and its Limited Use requirements. It is not used for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or purposes unrelated to those features.

Retention and your controls

Settings, redirect mappings, removal preferences and aggregate counts remain locally until removed or until you uninstall Pause. Temporary session records clear when the browser restarts; many records are also removed when a visit or tab ends. There is no developer-held copy to request or delete.

In the popup, you can remove a website or learned redirect, edit limits, turn a site off, or turn Pause off. Editing is locked while a breathing screen or visit chooser is open. Chrome’s tab controls, extension manager, disable/uninstall controls and website-permission controls remain available. Uninstalling the extension removes its local extension data. Chrome’s storage protections apply; Pause does not add separate encryption to local records.

This website and support

This static website is hosted on GitHub Pages. It has no analytics code, advertising, forms, cookies set by this site’s code, external fonts, or embedded media. GitHub may process technical request information, including your IP address and request details, to operate and secure its hosting. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

If you choose to open a GitHub support issue, GitHub processes your account and submitted content under its own policy. Issues are public. Only include information you are comfortable sharing publicly; do not post private destination URLs, passwords or account data. The project maintainer uses voluntarily submitted issue details to respond and troubleshoot.

For privacy questions or support, use the support page. Updates to this policy will appear here with a revised date. If the extension’s data practices change, the policy and store disclosures will be updated.
